The query on Google.com was for “Guido Westerwelle”. The title of the Side-Ad is “DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH“, the subsequent text offers a language course by the Berlitz Language School.

This reminds me of the case of Brandt Hershman, a state senator in Indiana which was reported to have received monetary benefits from AT&T. Still in the Hershman case Google took the ads down following a trademark complaint by AT&T … However in the case at hand there is no trademark being used, so in theory ads, as long as they do not violate AdWord’s Advertising Policies should be allowed. Speaking of which I’ve found something interesting concerning ads for gambling in Austria:
